A year ago, I decided to do something a little crazy – I took my 2022 Ford Transit 350L LWB and turned it into my dream camper van. Trust me, it was a wild ride, but it’s opened up a world of opportunities for me. My comfy and luxe mobile home means I get to live on the road full-time, enjoying all the best bits of Australia.
Turning a van into a camper isn’t as simple as throwing a mattress in the back (although, wouldn’t that be nice?). I really had to learn the ins and outs of everything, from building a kitchenette and a sleeping area to figuring out where to store my photography gear. But the real challenge was understanding the 12v off-grid power systems.
I spent a good two years getting my head around it, learning all I could about sustainable energy and how to harness it effectively. There were definitely some bumps along the road, but I’ve now got a set-up that lets me live comfortably, wherever I decide to park up for the night.
